MUMBAI: The hunt for India's youth icon has never looked more exciting with some path-breaking categories and nominations this year for the MTV and Pepsi Youth Icon 2007. Abhishek Bachchan is up against Orkut, multimedia cell phone, Rang De Basanti and you.
Earlier icons like Anil Ambani, Rahul Dravid, Shah Rukh Khan and Mahendra Singh Dhoni had better watch out. The year 2007 can see the rise of an individual, a movie or even a social group, with the nominees having been selected from a wide array of possibilities.
Announcing the line-up of nominees that moves away from the usual personality-led nominations to literally anything that has affected the youth in recent times, this year's nominees are a mad bunch.
Ashish Patil, general manager, MTV, said: "This is one property that recognises what's hooking our youths imagination today. And after having spawned a dozen clones, it's time to rewrite the rules once again. Youth power rules.”
The final nominations have been arrived at after a comprehensive research conducted by MTV along with Third Eye research. The sample size included youngsters aged 15-24 across metros.
The number of public votes acquired by each one of the five nominees decides the final youth icon for each year. The voting will conclude on June 29, 2007.
